Dover Public Education Foundation

The Dover Public Education Foundation and East at Dover High collaborate on projects annually. At the DPEF fundraising Gala, there was an EAST @ Dover High produced video shown that highlighted grant awards to over 300 attendees. The DPEF has provided EAST at Dover High a Glowforge, a 3-D printer, and a music production kit. We hope to continue working with them to further the development of our EAST program.

We have really expanded our area of creation this school year with new technologies like the “Glowforge”, screen printing kit, new Cricut, and button kit. We use these tools in teaching the community, producing items for projects, and to support our EAST classroom. Just recently we have taken different creations made from our Makerspace to a craft fair and made over $500 to go towards new technologies, trainings, and projects. Our Makerspace gives students the chance to design objects in softwares and transform them into material objects.

Graphic Design

The focus of a lot of students this year has been Graphic Design. Through the use of several softwares like photoshop, illustrator, and more we have been able to provide several posters, banners, and advertisements to many community partners. We have several annual graphic design opportunities that new Easties get a chance to participate: Ozark Memories day, Fall Festivals, photo exhibits, etc…  Easties are continuously producing new t-shirt designs for East con, festivals, businesses, and more.

Community Involvement

Every year in EAST @Dover high students spend a minimum of 20 hours in their community.  Serving the people in any way, this opens up opportunity for several collaborations and helps the students branch out. This year alone students have participated in several galas, soup kitchens , environmental clean ups, and fundraisers. Through these events students learn to care for their community and the people in it.

Dover High Schools R.E.K

R.E.K also known as Roadside Emergency kit a former project saw through has been brought back a few years later by seniors Shelby Waddoups and Sydney Masters. The two have reach out to a new community partner bringing in new supplies for the students. Saint Mary’s Regional Health System helped our school out by supplying 150 of each products including: Hand sanitizers, isopropyl alcohol, bandages, gauze and many more. The R.E.K bag also includes packets they created in photoshop with information about basic automotive knowledge, driving under the influence, and emergency hotlines/ local numbers. After partnering with the highway department they got updated 2020 road maps as well. This project will reach the 150 student drivers of Dover high school , and will hopefully continue to in future school years.  IMG_0709

Revisitation to Innovation <3

The Innovation Hub has a hard time keeping us away; we enjoy the creative environment that allows us to explore our technologies that we otherwise could not in our home classroom. Our latest visit we were introduced to pottery, and printmaking. We also revisited the art of screen-printing. While learning to printmake we used slabs of linoleum and carving tools to make an array of designs that would soon be stamped with ink. We got to have hands on learning with pottery and were taught different techniques to sculpt whatever we desired. We plan on making multiple trips back to this lovely establishment located in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

S’mores EAST

EAST at Dover High has starting hosting our S’more EAST once month where they continue to teach members of the community and school district various topics. Our goal is to explore more of the EAST classroom and what it offers. We have had one session so far and have another planned for Dec.5. The first session featured button making and the design of them. The upcoming training is teaching the basics of a “glowforge” and the amazing things you can create using this hardware. We are excited to continue to do these and invite anyone and everyone to come and learn with us. IMG-1364

EASTIES @ the craft fair

Students Shelby Waddoups and Sydney Masters showcased the new technology and crafty tools we use and the things created. The two used the newest addition to our EAST classroom the “glowforge” to create school ornaments of our school and the surrounding community schools, raising over $500 to help out our EAST classroom plan trips, invest in new technology, and stock our inventory. Sydney also created the poster below to advertise the craft fair. We are very excited to share what is being created in our classroom and hope to continue participating in events like these.

Fun Fridays :)

We in EAST at Dover High every two weeks, take a class period to do a team building activity. Our goal being to bring the class back together as one, and build our relationships. Some of our activities include : Pat on the back, which is where we secretly wrote things to encourage each other on a paper hand placed on our backs; A time crunch group puzzle, where we all have a piece of a puzzle and work together to put it together for a finished project, metaphorically we all bring a piece of the puzzle to the EAST classroom to make it complete; our students have also done the Co-Op-A-Walk to build communication skills, two students share two boards and a rope to race another group.

We’re seeing in 3D… again.

We’ve all been there, working in our EAST classroom when all of a sudden the 3D printer, yea you know the one, starts malfunctioning and Mr./Mrs. Facilitator has to go and try to troubleshoot like the 3D printer genius they are…Well, alumni Colby Taverner decided to leave one final legacy before he left, and so he wrote and received a grant from the Dover Public Education Foundation to purchase us a brand new NWA3D A31 3D Printer. Our MakerBot still works, but as we progress as an EAST program, we know it is time for something newer and more advanced so we can continue to expand our printing capacity. Overall we’re really excited and hope to be posting some of our new creations soon!
